I prefer SMART. But, AA does work for many people
and many others (the majority) have outside help in term of professional counselling, via places of worship, meditation centres, retreats etc etc so it may be better to say that people primarily do this with some of this. In the US there is a recent trend for many to go to 12 step as well as to other support groups – always good to keep an open mind. I find utility in many different approaches.
